“The non-Hispanic White-alone population [of the United States] is projected to shrink over the coming decades… even as the U.S. population continues to grow. ” – United States Census Bureau
The bonds of the US-Europe relationship are not only matters of strategic interest, economic ties, or defense agreements. These elements are built on a foundation emanating from cultural, linguistic, and demographic connections. US-Europe Alliance recognizes that just as the issues facing the transatlantic relationship have evolved since the end of the Cold War, so too have the populations on each side of the Atlantic. Americans who trace their family heritage back to Europe will in the coming decades become an increasingly smaller portion of the American public relative to those who claim ancestry from elsewhere. All Americans, regardless of ethnic heritage, benefit from the US-Europe Alliance. All Americans are made safer and more prosperous through transatlantic trade and investment and through the NATO alliance. Yet, not all segments of the American population – especially those of non-European heritage – are effectively included in the broader transatlantic conversation. USEA, as an organization tasked with mobilizing Americans, actively invites citizens of all backgrounds to join the conversation. The cultural ties that proved so vital in the 20th century, must be renewed and refreshed for the coming decades.
